Man helping change flat tire killed by passing semi

TRIBUNE - A Leoti man was killed after being hit by a semitrailer while helping change a tire about 13 miles north of Tribune Tuesday night.

Honore Antonio Lira, 29, McCook, Neb.; Gonzalo Maldono-Gonzalez, 24, Albuquerque, N.M.; and Domingo Alvarado, 34, Leoti, were in the westbound shoulder of Greeley County Road D fixing a flat tire on a 1994 Buick Century about 7:20 p.m. Another car, a 1992 Chevrolet Lumina, was also in the westbound shoulder with its headlights shining on the Century.

Elmer Holman, 79, Tribune, was westbound when he hit both vehicles and ran over Alvarado, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Alvarado was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
