Pedestrian struck and killed on Rte. 128

WOBURN — State police say a 77-year-old man who stepped into the right travel lane of Route 128 South in Woburn has been struck and killed by a tractor-trailer.

John Herlihy of Winchester was struck at about 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday and pronounced dead at the scene at 5:47 a.m.

The truck driver, 57-year-old Moses Yahaya of Jersey City, N.J., told police that the man stepped into the travel lane. The truck driver was not injured.

Police say authorities are still investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding the crash.

The right lane of the highway was closed during the investigation.
